Bamurru Plains

Inspired by the luxury camps of Africa, Bamurru Plains offers a truly unique experience in a superb bush setting.

Located on the coastal floodplains of the Mary River on the edge of Kakadu National Park, Bamurru’s emphasis is on exposing you to one of the most significant ecosystems in Australia.

This 300km² private property is home to an immense diversity of wildlife. The very design of the ten safari bungalows allows you to watch the parade of wildlife emerge to feed on the floodplain from the comfort of your bed!

An extensive touring program focuses on exploring the surrounding country away from the safari lodge, with airboat trips on the wetlands, river cruises in search of sun-baking crocodiles, bird watching, astronomy evenings, overland safari drives and guided wilderness walks, while ancient rock art and indigenous culture are an easy optional day trip to Kakadu and Arnhem Land.

Although accessible by road in just three hours, Bamurru is best reached via a privately chartered flight from Darwin, looking out over the twists and turns of the Adelaide River, otherwise known as 'Australia's Okavango'.

Safari Bungalow

Sleeps 0 guests

Nine safari bungalows are raised on stilts overlooking the floodplain with mesh screen ceiling to floor walls on three sides around the bed, providing guests with an experience in which they can hear, see and almost touch the wildlife and wilderness around them.

The alarm clock in the morning is the call of Magpie Geese and Whistling Kites and the orange light of dawn spreading across the floodplain, all audible and visible without having to leave your bed. The décor reflects the region's earlier indigenous and pastoral history, with buffalo horns, explorer's maps

Aboriginal art work and fish traps providing guests with a sense of the human heritage of the area. The focus is on a supremely comfortable bed (organic cotton linen), spacious ensuite bathroom with high pressure showers. Each room has a cold water thermos, local flora and fauna reading materials, species lists and binoculars.

Kingfisher Suite

Sleeps 5 guests

Our largest safari bungalow is the Kingfisher Suite with expansive floodplain views through Bamurru’s trademark ceiling to floor mesh walls. It really does feel as if you are right amongst it with an intimate sense of connection to the wildlife and wilderness outside.

With 81m2 space in the bedroom alone, the suite features a king size bed, generous lounge area and space to accommodate a family of five in comfort. For honeymooners looking for a sense of privacy, the size of the Kingfisher Suite allows for an intimate in-room candlelit dinner with only the sounds of the bush as company.

The bathroom features twin basins and showers, within a décor of rustic chic timber and recycled corrugated walls, utterly in tune with the environment and pastoral heritage of the area. For maximum exposure (and only the local Agile Wallabies as company) the suite also offers a shower with full ceiling to floor views across the floodplain and surrounding paperbark forests.

Jabiru Suite

Sleeps 8 guests

Jabiru Retreat is a private ‘camp within a camp’ experience featuring two safari bungalows connected via a raised walkway leading to an exclusive-use plunge pool. Alongside is an alfresco lounge and dining space with a view overlooking the lush plains that attract abundant wildlife including buffalo, agile wallabies, brumbies and an incredible variety of birdlife including magpie geese and the retreat’s namesake, the Jabiru.
